Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my child’s swim lesson?

Your child’s swim teacher will first get your child comfortable with the water. Next, the swim teacher will build trust while introducing new swim skills in the water, as well as introducing water safety skills to your child.

When will my child be able to swim?

Every child is different so we cannot put a time frame on this question. Some children have experienced fear and trauma towards the water while others are fearless. Some children listen extremely well and pick up swimming quickly while others take longer to learn and pick up swimming skills, which is ok.

What should I bring to the swim lesson?

Please bring a swimsuit and towel, and you can bring goggles if you like.

My child keeps getting swimmers ear. What do I do?

Please take your child to the doctor if they are complaining of an ear ache or liquid in their ears. A preventative measure to help when water gets into the ear is to buy “swim ear” ear drops. They are drops that go in the ear to dry out all of the water. You can buy this on Amazon. A homeopathic option is to put half rubbing alcohol and half apple cider vinegar in an eye dropper. Place 2-3 drops in the ear, massage ear for 10-15 seconds, and tilt head to drain all the liquid out.

How young do you teach swim lessons?

The youngest we recommend to do one on one private swim lessons is 2 years old. We recommend 6 months to 24 months old to do mommy and me classes to become familiarized with the water. Our lessons are 30 minutes long, and 6 months to 24 months old should not have more than a 15 minute lesson.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • The cancellation period refers to the timeframe within which a cancellation request must be made in order to be eligible for a full refund, reschedule or to avoid any cancellation fees.

  • The cancellation period for our services is 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.

  • We understand emergencies and illness happen. In this occurrence there will be a $30 charge. Mathis Swim Academy still needs to pay for their instructors and heat the pool.
